Dirt Bike School

This nationwide program was created by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) to provide hands-on rider training with an emphasis on safety and skill development. During the school, students learn basic techniques for safely riding off-highway motorcycles. Lessons are presented at controlled off-highway riding sites specifically designed for the course.

The school begins with the basics; sitting on the motorcycle, location and operation of controls and straight-line riding. As students progress, they learn how to ride in circles, make sharp turns, and how to ride on hills. Besides learning new skills, students also discuss responsible riding practices including risk management and environmental awareness. There are additional exercises available for more experienced riders. At the end of the school, students should have a solid understanding of the techniques an off-highway rider must use to stay safe, act responsibly and most importantly, have fun.

Your entire class time is spent on the course with plenty of hands-on instruction and real-world riding situations. Total class time for the school can vary from four to six hours depending on weather, class size and the abilities of the students. At some sites additional riding opportunites will be available.

Students as young as six years of age are allowed to enroll and currently over 50% of MSF DirtBike School students are youth age 16 and under. The DirtBike School is also a great place for adults to learn how to ride off-highway motorcycles.

The MSF DirtBike School was developed from the MSF Off-Highway Motorcycle Program and is taught by a nationwide network of DirtBike School coaches. Although the DirtBike School is one of MSF's newest training programs, portions of it have been in use since 1993 by federal and state agencies to train peace officers, military personnel, volunteers and others on the safe operation of off-highway motorcycles.

Our no-pressure, controlled environment is an ideal setting for many adult riders who want to get started in motorcycling. And in certain cases, some find that the DirtBike School is an excellent introduction to taking the MSF street motorcycle RiderCourse.
